Every once in a while I come across a story that really makes me feel great….here’s one of them. Ricardo Gonzales, Executive Director of Bilingual America, has started the Claro Initiative…a program that provides critical social need providers with high-quality Spanish training materials at no charge. By equipping medical staff, ministers, teachers, law enforcement officials and others with Spanish he aims to create an environment in our country for greater depths of influence in the Latino community. We found this video posted on Facebook early this morning. We think Eric Thomas is setting a great example for us all. He’s showing others how to take charge of their lives and, ultimately, enjoy a Better Day! Check it out and let us know your thoughts after watching it.

Wow! We had a garage sale last Saturday and raised enough money to buy a gently used hot tub, landscaping plants AND patio furniture! We spent two weeks gathering things together…from our house and friends, family, etc. We offered to “pick up” if they wanted to de-clutter their space and donate their unwanted items. We stored everything in the garage until the night before. We “organized” everything in the back courtyard. Saturday morning at 8am we put a sign on top of one of our cars in front of the house…and, voila, we were busy, busy!

We brought down the sign and closed the doors at noon. We gathered all the unsold items. One shopper had left us a business card from a thrift store in town telling us they would pick up any of the leftovers. We called, they came, we filed one trash can…and we were finished.

On Sunday we browsed the ads on craigslist.com and struck gold…$695 would get us a gently-used, 6-person hot tub DELIVERED that afternoon! The boys waited for the delivery while the girls went off to spend the remaining money on plants and furniture.

Now it’s Wednesday. The hot tub was operational and used by everyone last night. Plants were put into the ground on Monday and Tuesday. The furniture is due to be delivered in a couple days. I’ll be sure to post pictures when everything is put in place.

What can I say, the potential’s unlimited. We all wanted a hot tub but someone said we “couldn’t afford it”. Well, as long as we all thought that way, we were absolutely right. We would not have a hot tub today because we would not have given it any attention whatsoever. Instead, we said let’s see what we can do…let’s see what’s possible. Let’s take one step in that direction and see where it leads. The rest is history.

Take the first step. Figure out the next one after that! That hot tub is sure making today a Better Day for me…what would make your day better?

I’m continually fascinated by technology. I’m sitting on an airplane at about 30,000 feet just over Phoenix, Arizona (according to the pilot)…and I’m connected to the internet writing this blog post! In another window I’m carrying on a Skype conversation with a business partner. Oops…was just cautioned by the flight attendant, “No video chatting is allowed”. Well, that’s ok. As long as I can ‘chat’, I’ll get the job done. Pretty cool how this works, huh?

So, that gets me thinking…we’ve come so far so fast. Couldn’t connect to the internet while in flight a year ago! Well, I don’t know about you, but I wasn’t even connected to the internet 15 years ago! Can you even imagine the changes that will take place in the next 15 years? Actually boggles the mind!

When you think about the mind and what’s possible, the potential’s really unlimited. I continue to wonder what might BE. And, I’m not limiting that to technology… I mean what might be possible if we really utilize the full potential of our mind? What questions might be answered? What problems might be solved? What beliefs might be shattered?

We don’t really know what change looks like, do we? Here’s to a Better Day…
