Nothing Can Ruin My Day!

How often do we let some external circumstance be a thorn in our day? If I’m like most people, I probably do it too much. Sometimes I let trivial things get in the way and by the end I’ve given so much energy into looking for solutions or moping about it that I’ve forgotten to live it to the best. It’s possible to give so much concentration to what could go better that we lose sight of what is going smoothly. There are probably a dozen Read the rest of this entry »
Guilt – Useless Emotion #1

– Henri Ducard (Batman Begins)
Guilt can be defined as “a feeling of responsibility or remorse for some offense, crime, wrong, etc., whether real or imagined”.
Guilt is a useless emotion…it’s an emotion about something that’s already happened. It’s related to a negative event that took place in the past. It hangs over our heads. It reduces our self-worth and keeps us in misery. Guilt keeps us chained in the past, unable to move forward. And the worst part is, we do it to ourselves. Being in control of our own emotions, we place ourselves in situations that make us feel guilty or around people who put us down by reminding us of something we can never change. Control Your Paradigms

Today I was listening to a video created by a prominent figure within the self-help industry. Although I felt a sense of connection with some of the intellectual information, there was definitely something missing.
I understand that personal change and growth is up to me. I know that what is happening in my physical world is merely an expression of what’s happening inside. And, yes, I need to get my thoughts, feelings and actions all in sync with one another.
Here’s what doesn’t make sense: First, I’m told that I need to “control” my paradigms (beliefs). Then, I’m told that my paradigms dictate my logic. This seems circular. Stay with me as I explain my reasons as to why controlling paradigms doesn’t make sense… Read the rest of this entry »
Living From the Inside Out
We are conditioned to live from the outside in. Somewhere along the way we chose to believe our results control our actions. Rather, the truth is that everything you have in your life is an expression of what’s going on inside…in your mind. The Law of Attraction works on your beliefs…which are held in the subconscious mind.
I had a conversation this morning with a very dear friend of mine. For conversation’s sake, I’ll call him Mike. He’s been in a relationship for a few months but he informed me that they’ve decided to call it quits. Mike told me they hit it off in an amazing way initially, but it’s been going down hill steadily. He’s come to the realization that he keeps “attracting” the same type of people into his relationships. Initially, they all “look” different but his outcome is always the same. Mike’s noticing a pattern and he wishes he could stop the cycle.
It’s always easier being the person on the outside of a relationship looking in. Here’s how I see the cycle: Mike has a fragile self-image even though the typical observer sees a friendly, caring, confident individual. At a conscious level Mike is attracted to women that see him as sociable, compassionate and secure. But, subconsciously, at the deepest level, he is attracted to women that will eventually confirm his belief that he’s “not good enough”.
Mike needs to get to the cause of his belief…and modify it. Anything else is merely an attempt to bury the symptoms. As I mentioned, the Law of Attraction works on your beliefs…
I’m positive Mike would like to have a Better Day! For now, he remains grateful for the little things in life — the California sunshine, an ocean breeze, fish tacos, good friends and work that he loves! I’m all about noticing and appreciating what’s around us until we are able to address the cause. I’m wishing you a Better Day!
What You Know vs. What You Do
There’s a big difference between what you know and what you do. I know that I should exercise regularly. I know I should eat healthy food. I know I should get at least 7 hours of sleep each night. Well, then, why don’t I do that? I think it all links back to the power of subconscious mind.
I’ve heard that the conscious mind typically controls only about 7% of overall perceptual and functional ability. All the information that we acquire intellectually from the past is primarily used by the conscious mind. On the other hand, the power of mind comes from the 93% controlled by the subconscious. The physiological functions of the body are controlled by the subconscious…the cardiovascular system, respiratory system, digestion, hormone and chemical production and much more. It is the subconscious part of the mind that knows how to heal disease and injury.
Additionally, it is the subconscious part of the mind where your beliefs reside. Let me tell you why that is so, so important. Your beliefs are what generate your perceptions. What you perceive creates your thoughts and meanings. It is through your thoughts that you produce emotions. Emotions drive your behavior. The cycle continues as your behavior reinforces your beliefs. Here’s my understanding by way of an example of how it works:
-
• Subconscious Belief – I’m not good enough
• Perception – People don’t like me because I’m overweight
• Emotion – Disgust, depression
• Behavior – Eating “comfort” food
I’m sure you’re all familiar with the saying “Think Positive”. Sounds like a great idea, but how do you do that if your perception is negative because your belief is “I’m not good enough.”? Seems to me positive thinking is dealing with the symptom and not the cause of the issue. Personally, I’d prefer to determine the people, events or actions that “programmed” that belief structure into my unconscious mind when I was in a super suggestible state. From there, I’d be able to re-evaluate the belief to see if it is based on truth or is merely the perception of my programmer.
Does that sound absurd? I’m looking to have a Better Day so I’d like to transform the beliefs that are holding me back into beliefs that empower and allow me to evolve. Be sure to share your Better Day thoughts and ideas with me and those around you. Let’s change the world with one idea…one day at a time!
