Call to Action

“You must take action now that will move you towards your goals. Develop a sense of urgency in your life.” – H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
I’ve been hearing quite a bit about urgency and all it entails. Most people shutter at the sound of it. What Mr. Brown is trying to tell us is that we have to have a clear idea of what we want and then refuse to give up. Time is precious…we must be focused and determined. The only thing we are totally sure of is ‘now’…we don’t know how much time we have here in this physical form. I invite you to look at two urgency ‘breakers’ and two urgency ‘makers’ that have Read the rest of this entry »
The Little Things
Today I asked my sister what would make her have a Better Day. Her initial response was that she was already having a good day. I had to ask again and explain that I’m sure there were things, little things, that might make her day better. I had to get her started by suggesting that she might think her day would be “better” if her children came to visit. “Oh, yes, that would be better”, she said.
Then I couldn’t stop her. She said the things that would make her day better are really the little things. I thought I’d share her list with you in case you’re stuck, too:
-
• Seeing the sunrise
• Sitting in the sun
• Shopping at the farmer’s market
• A morning hike
• Having someone say, “I made you some coffee.”
• Wandering at the greenhouse
• Taking a long bath at the end of the day
• Reading a good book
• Thinking about something that challenges me
• Getting a good grade on a test
• Finding the perfect color of paint
• Being hot…and sweating
What hit me when I looked at this list is that each of these things is simple and either low or no cost. We may not be able to pay off all of our bills or take that ‘round the world cruise today, but we can have a Better Day by enjoying the little things. Practice being aware of the tiny glimpses of good that are revealed to you during your day. It really doesn’t take something that big to make your day better!
