What Motivates Change

Today, I want to ask you two very serious questions:

1. What is it that motivates you to change?

2. If you don’t like the results you are getting, what will motivate you to change the actions you are taking?

If you ask a smoker to quit his 10 year long habit and not smoke anymore for the rest of his life, you probably will get much resistance. Pay It Forward
In the 2000 movie, Pay It Forward, a young boy attempts to make the world a better place after his teacher gives him an assignment. The teacher suggested that the class take the things they didn’t like about the world and flip them upside down. The assignment…think of something to change the world and put it into action.

Developing an attitude of gratitude is one of the most powerful practices we can develop. Be on the lookout for opportunities to be grateful, find things to be grateful for in the midst of problems or challenges, and talk about your gratitude frequently…to as many people as possible. Constantly be on the lookout for good and then name it when you see it.

The attitude of gratitude helps us not take people and things for granted. It keeps us open and receptive- even a bit humble-which opens the channel for more good to come to us.

Can one small voice make a difference?  After my experience yesterday with 18,000 youth, I’d have to say the answer is a resounding “yes”!  I had the amazing opportunity to attend We Day in Vancouver yesterday, October 15th. We Day, created by Free The Children, is a one-of-a-kind event and part of an innovative year-long program created to celebrate the power of young people to create positive change in the world.
